Introduction

India’s Standards & Labeling (S&L) program of Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) aims to help consumers make informed choices about energy-consuming appliances. The scheme helps consumers to determine the energy efficiency performance, as well as the cost-effectiveness of various appliances and equipment.

The scheme was launched in 2006 and currently covers 28 appliances/equipment.

In this blog, we look at the new star rating table for color televisions, and what it means for manufacturers.

What’s New?

All manufacturers/permittees of color televisions (CTV) registered under the S&L program are hereby informed that the existing star rating table for CTV has been upgraded by 1 Star level with table validity period of 3-Years (effective from 1st January 2025 to 31 December 2027).

The revised energy consumption standard shall commence w.e.f. 1 January 2025 and all the active star labeled models of CTV per existing energy consumption standards will automatically expire on 31 December 2024.

Every manufacturer/permittee willing to continue with the existing model, already approved by BEE, has to apply for a “continuation option” (degradation option, for eg. 3-star to 2-star) and get its model approved per the revised energy consumption standards before 31 December 2024. The continuation link has been made live w.e.f. 1st August, 2024 at 15:00 hrs.

For models already approved by BEE, the registered manufacturers/permittees have to submit the specified proforma seeking willingness to continue the registered models with BEE beyond 31 December 2024.

Every manufacturer/permittee willing to renew their already registered models has to submit an application fee of Rs. 1,000/- per model to BEE. For new model registration, a fee of Rs. 2,000/- per model is applicable.
