Student Program Insights: Aoife Glennon – Researcher

My name is Aoife Glennon, and I study Law with Politics at the University of Limerick.

I joined Compliance and Risks in May 2022 as a Student Researcher, working as part of the firm’s Global Regulatory Compliance Team. This role has been a fantastic experience.

My 8-month placement ended in January 2023, however, I was delighted to stay working in Compliance and Risks on a part-time basis during my college semester.

What Was Involved in My Role?

Throughout my placement, I was exposed to a variety of legal topics, from Climate Change to Circular Economy, Medical Devices, Nanotechnology, and so much more.

The exposure to these areas of law has been brilliant as they are not areas one would traditionally study within their law degree.

My working day involved analyzing and entering various pieces of new legislation, which is excellent as a student as I have developed a range of invaluable skills such as conducting client-oriented legal research, the ability to write effective and concise legal documents while strengthening my awareness of current Irish, European, and global legal developments and legislation in the process.

What are My Thoughts on Compliance & Risks?

Compliance and Risks has been an immensely positive place to work, and my colleagues are incredibly friendly and encouraging.

The best thing about Compliance and Risks, apart from the people, is that you are very well trained.

I received weeks of training at the beginning of my placement and have also been able to attend firm-wide seminars on various legal topics, something I found incredibly helpful.

You are also partnered up with a buddy when you begin your time at Compliance and Risks, which I really appreciated.

As a student, you play an active role in helping clients, which equips you with the requisite skills to succeed in any legal career.

It is needless to emphasize again that the Compliance and Risks Student Program is incredible to anyone seeking to expand their legal and professional horizons.
