Regulatory Trends Impacting Electronic Components

Webinar Overview
In the beginning of January 2025 the EU Commission notified the WTO of three draft amendments to the EU RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU as regards an exemption for lead in certain electrical components. This webinar will clarify the proposed expiry dates for exemptions for EEE components containing lead reflecting the results of the preparatory studies.
Short exemption timeframes should encourage industry to generate input that would allow narrowing the scope of the exemption to a comprehensive list of applications, since the Commission is keen to review again as soon as possible, and a short validity period means industry will need to further engage and provide evidence supporting renewal requests in the near future.

After months of anticipation, China RoHS was finally extended to cover a total of 10 restricted hazardous substances, including the addition of 4 phthalates to the list of restricted substances. The webinar will explain manufacturers’/importers’ obligations, which products are impacted, as well as the transitional period.
In December 2024, California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment issued significant amendments to California Proposition 65 regulations. This webinar will explore these changes, which include updates to short-form warnings on consumer products and new safe harbor warnings for passenger or off-highway motor vehicle and recreational marine vessel parts.
The webinar also touches upon some key regulatory developments in relation to PFAS (poly- or per-fluoroalkyl substances). A number of laws and regulations have recently been implemented or proposed to restrict PFAS use and reduce exposure. There are several PFAS regulations that companies must be prepared for to remain compliant in 2025.
